IFC Markets Reliability and Regulation Review

IFC Markets logo

IFC Markets, also known by other names such as IFC Market, is one of the long-standing players in forex and CFD trading. The broker began operating in 2006 and over the past two decades has managed to establish its position among Iranian and international traders. By focusing on today's modern technologies and offering unique tools, IFC Markets has tried to meet the diverse needs of its users. In this article, we will take a close look at the broker's credibility and regulation, including its licenses, track record, awards, fund insurance, rumors and security points. Our aim in writing this article is to help Iranian traders make fully informed decisions, especially given that sanctions and banking restrictions have created particular challenges for them.

List of IFC Markets Regulators

IFC Markets operates under the supervision of several regulatory bodies, which shows its commitment to complying with international standards. These regulations not only guarantee transparency of operations but also provide protection for traders' capital. While the main structure is built on offshore licenses , the presence of multiple oversight bodies raises its level of credibility. By obtaining licenses from reputable bodies, IFC Markets has managed to win users' trust, although some Iranian traders may be more cautious because of the offshore nature of some of its licenses. Even so, these regulations include periodic reviews and financial reporting requirements, which reduce potential risks.

BVI FSC regulation, British Virgin Islands

One of IFC Markets' main licenses is the one issued by the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission (BVI FSC) under number SIBA/L/14/1073. This regulation is considered offshore and requires IFC Markets to comply with financial and operational standards. The BVI FSC oversees the segregation of client accounts from company accounts and has also set requirements to prevent money laundering. For Iranian traders, this license means easy access to services without the strict restrictions of European regulators. However, the level of client fund protection under this regulation is lower than with bodies such as the FCA, but IFC Markets has made up for this gap with additional insurance. This license has been active since 2014, and so far no major sanctions have been imposed on IFC Markets, which reflects its stability.

LFSA regulation, Malaysia

In addition to the BVI license, IFC Markets holds another license from the Labuan Financial Services Authority (LFSA) in Malaysia under number MB/20/0049. This regulation focuses on STP (Straight Through Processing) operations and requires IFC Markets to maintain capital and report regularly. As an Asian body, the LFSA is attractive to Iranian users because it makes access to Asian markets easier. This license reflects IFC Markets' geographic expansion and provides more protection against local risks. Reviews show that the LFSA has a track record of fining brokers that break the rules, which strengthens IFC Markets' credibility.

Is IFC Markets Reliable? A License-Based Reliability Analysis

The credibility of the IFC Markets broker can be assessed based on its multiple licenses and long track record. Although its main regulations are offshore, combining them with insurance and internal standards has created a reasonable level of credibility. Iranian traders often look for brokers that get around sanctions, and IFC Markets has performed very well in this respect. An analysis of its licenses shows that IFC Markets benefits from regular oversight, which reduces the risk of fraud. However, its ultimate credibility depends on user experiences, and checking reputable sites such as Trustpilot and ForexPeaceArmy is essential. With more than 395 thousand clients worldwide, IFC Markets reflects market trust, but traders should always be mindful of the risk to their capital.

Segregated funds license and separation of client capital at IFC Markets

One of the most important aspects of IFC Markets' credibility is the requirement to segregate client capital (segregated funds), mandated by the BVI FSC and LFSA regulators. This ensures that client accounts are kept separate from the company's operating accounts, and that traders' capital is protected in the event of bankruptcy. For Iranian users, who often face currency fluctuations, this segregation is doubly important. IFC Markets also offers negative balance protection, which prevents clients from going into debt. These licenses are based on international standards and require annual reports, which increases transparency and trust.

Clause 42 of the client agreement states that client funds are segregated from the company's funds; however, these amounts may be held together with other clients' funds in a pooled account. The agreement also permits funds to be held with a bank, credit institution, custodian or payment service provider approved by the company, and limits the company's liability in the event of those entities' bankruptcy.

Review of IFC Markets' track record

IFC Markets began operating in 2006 and now has more than 20 years of history. This long track record reflects stability in the volatile forex market. Over these years, IFC Markets has introduced innovative tools such as the GeWorko method and serves more than 193 countries. For Iranian traders, this means continuous access to their accounts under sanctions. Reviews show that IFC Markets has no major history of suspended operations, and its reach into Asian and African markets is considered part of its credibility.

The numerous awards IFC Markets has received attest to the quality of its services. The broker has won more than 33 international awards, reflecting innovation and offering reassurance to users. For Iranian traders, these awards can be reassuring, as they were presented by reputable global financial magazines. The achievements relate not only to its trading platforms but also to unique tools such as GeWorko. These awards have increased in recent years and have set IFC Markets apart from its competitors.

IFC Markets Broker Awards and Achievements

IFC Markets has published on its official website a list of the awards it has received over the years; awards related to topics such as its trading platform, customer service and CFD trading. These titles can show part of the broker's track record, but on their own they are not a sufficient measure of its credibility or service quality. Below, we review the most important awards and achievements it has announced, with the year and the organizer.

International Business Magazine

Best Forex Broker by global financial magazines

The name IFC Markets appears in the award lists of several financial magazines, including International Business Magazine, Global Business Review Magazine and Global Business and Finance Magazine . The titles and honors these publications have attributed to IFC Markets are not the same; they range from «Best International Forex Broker» in Vietnam and South Korea to «Best Customer Service», «Most Innovative CFD Broker» and «Best CFD Trading Platform».

For example, Global Business Review Magazine in 2022 listed IFC Markets under 5 titles related to forex services, CFD trading, customer focus and trustworthiness. If we assume the judging process of these magazines was honest, we can conclude that IFC Markets performed very well in 2022.

On the other hand, a notable point is that the broker has repeatedly received awards from different publications in different years; this repetition shows that financial media attention to this broker has not been limited to a single event. Even so, the title and region of each award should be read carefully: an award for «Best Broker in Vietnam» or «Best Platform in East Asia» cannot be generalized to the status of «Best Broker in the World».

US patent for the GeWorko method

One of the technical achievements associated with IFC Markets is the GeWorko method, or Portfolio Quoting Method , which is used to build Personal Composite Instruments (PCI). With this method, the trader can place assets available on the platform, such as currencies, gold, commodities and indices, into two baskets in any chosen amounts and measure the value of one basket against the other. The result is a chart and a tradable instrument that can be used to examine relationships between markets, for pair trading and for testing basket-based ideas.

A US patent, US10453141B2, has been registered for the technology used to build and analyze such instruments. IFC Markets offers the ability to create and trade PCIs on the NetTradeX platform. According to the broker itself, this feature is not available in its MetaTrader versions. This patent and its implementation show the platform's technical distinction, but they say nothing about order execution quality, the safety of client funds or the level of risk in trading composite baskets. Below, you can view the patent document through this link.

Insurance and Fund Protection at IFC Markets Broker

To assess the safety of funds at IFC Markets, three issues need to be examined separately: the company's professional indemnity insurance, how client funds are held, and the risk of trading losses. For example, professional indemnity insurance does not mean that the account balance or losses from trading are insured. Likewise, segregation of funds is no substitute for reviewing the terms of the client agreement and the institution holding the money. In the capital protection section, the broker's anti-money laundering rules should also be considered, which we will cover below.

Professional Indemnity insurance from Lloyd's of London

IFC Markets states that its professional indemnity insurance is provided through Hamilton Group Syndicate 4000, one of Lloyd’s syndicates. Its client agreement also mentions having this type of insurance in connection with the broker's licensing requirements. How professional indemnity insurance works depends on the claims covered and the terms of the policy. The broker's official documents do not specify the coverage limit, the exclusions, or under what conditions a client can benefit from it.

Compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) standards and capital adequacy

In its published legal documents, IFC Markets has released an anti-money laundering and terrorist financing prevention policy (AML & TF Prevention Policy), which can be read via this link . Identity verification and checking the source of funds are part of this framework and may lead to requests for additional documents when depositing or withdrawing. This process should not be confused with a «guarantee of fund safety». Also, no definitive conclusion can be drawn about the company's current capital adequacy from the public documents reviewed; it is better not to include this claim in the article without a financial report or specific confirmation from the regulator.

Reviewing Rumors and Security of IFC Markets Broker

User reviews can be useful for spotting potential problems, but a single complaint does not on its own prove that misconduct occurred, just as the resolution of one case does not invalidate all other complaints. For a more accurate assessment, we need to examine the subject of the complaint, its date, the broker's response and, most importantly, how accurate the claims are and whether they are more than rumors.

Scam reports and user reviews (ForexPeaceArmy, Trustpilot)

At the time of writing, IFC Markets' dedicated page on Trustpilot shows a rating of 3.5 out of 5 based on 564 reviews, and on ForexPeaceArmy a rating of 2.462 out of 5 based on 29 reviews, indicating both positive and negative user feedback on these sources. Among the reviews there are positive experiences with withdrawals and support, as well as complaints about fees, withdrawals or account access. These ratings change over time and should be rechecked when the article is published.

One documented case on the ForexPeaceArmy forum concerns a dispute over receiving funds, in which the same user later confirmed receiving the full amount. The value of this case lies in showing how complaints are handled, not in proving that all similar reports have been resolved. If a reader runs into a withdrawal problem, keeping the request number, correspondence history, transaction receipt and identity verification documents makes pursuing a complaint more practical

Security Tips for Trading at IFC Markets

Another mechanism the broker's documentation mentions alongside segregation of client funds is negative balance protection at the level of each trading account. According to IFC Markets' risk disclosure document, the client should not end up owing the broker for losses exceeding that account's balance. This feature does not prevent the loss of the account balance itself. The broker's guide also explains that in MT4 and MT5, the negative balance may be offset by posting a credit, and the balance figure may still appear negative while the account's net equity has reached zero.

IFC Markets Account Security and Support for Iranian Users

For Iranian users, security is not limited to the account password. In other words, when there is a problem logging in to the user account or withdrawing from the account, having a clear channel for follow-up also matters. On its Persian website at ifcmiran.asia, IFC Markets lists online chat, Persian-language email and contact channels including Telegram, WhatsApp and Bale.

On the other hand, the stated hours for Persian support are Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 21:30 Iran time. So we should not assume this broker's support is available 24 hours a day. The Persian website also offers a password recovery option and a complaint form.

On the financial side, the Persian website lists Rial deposit and withdrawal methods through several payment intermediaries. Something Iranian traders should know before depositing is that, although identity verification may not be mandatory at first, the broker can request identity documents for deposits or withdrawals and place restrictions on unverified accounts. Completing verification before depositing a large amount, keeping receipts and testing a small withdrawal are practical ways to reduce follow-up hassle; the availability of a Rial payment method alone does not guarantee withdrawals.
