About the Gate Exchange

Gate exchange, previously known as Gate.io, was founded in 2013 and is considered one of the world's top 3 crypto exchanges by trading volume. Supporting more than 5,000 digital assets and over 12,800 stocks and ETFs, the platform provides an integrated ecosystem for trading and investing across different markets.

Gate.io was one of the first exchanges to commit to maintaining 100% reserves, and according to the latest report, its reserve ratio has reached 127%. In addition, Gate SAFU, a dedicated user protection fund, adds an extra layer of protection for assets. Spot and futures trading, copy trading, trading bots and Earn products are among the exchange's other services.

Gate exchange credibility, ranking and global standing

In terms of scale of operations, liquidity and range of services, the Gate exchange is considered a large, top-tier global exchange. Active since 2013, the platform has more than 60 million users and ranks among the world's top 3 exchanges by trading volume. Its high rankings in the spot and futures markets and its support for more than 5,000 digital assets also show that Gate is not just an exchange with a large user base, but also holds a notable position in terms of market depth and breadth of services. That said, exchange rankings depend on trading volume and market conditions and should not be seen as fixed and permanent.

In terms of financial transparency and security frameworks, Gate also has several important indicators. It was one of the first platforms to commit to providing Proof of Reserves, and its declared reserve ratio is 127.11%; meaning that, according to the report provided, the value of its reserved assets exceeds its liabilities to users.

The use of Merkle Tree and ZK-Proof makes it possible to verify the reserves, and the SAFU security fund is an additional layer of protection for user assets. Alongside these, Gate's registrations and regulatory licenses in various jurisdictions strengthen its international credibility. Therefore, based on the available documentation, Gate can be considered one of the large, long-established and relatively transparent exchanges in the global crypto market; although these indicators alone do not eliminate the risks of holding assets on a centralized exchange.

Has the Gate.io exchange ever been hacked or involved in fraud?

The Gate.io crypto exchange has faced several security incidents in the past, but these should not be equated with «fraud by the exchange itself». In January 2019, a 51% attack on the Ethereum Classic network allowed attackers to double-spend about $271,000 worth of ETC linked to Gate.io; this attack stemmed from a vulnerability in the ETC network itself, not a direct hack of Gate.io's infrastructure, and the exchange subsequently increased its transaction confirmation requirements.

Also, in 2018 a vulnerability in Gate.io's chat feature led to manipulation of trades in the RLC/USDT market; the exchange identified the issue, halted the market and compensated the affected users for their losses. So Gate.io does have a history of security incidents, but the evidence presented gives no reason to attribute fraud or deliberate withdrawal of user assets to the exchange itself. When assessing its credibility, it is best to consider this history alongside Gate's current security measures and transparency.

Range of cryptocurrencies on the Gate exchange

One of Gate's most important strengths is the very wide variety of assets available for trading. The exchange currently supports more than 5,000 cryptocurrencies and, alongside the spot market, also offers services such as futures, bot trading and copy trading for a wide range of assets. The breadth of Gate's listings is not limited to cryptocurrencies; the platform's Gate TradFi section had also covered more than 12,800 stock and ETF instruments from the US, Hong Kong, Japanese and South Korean markets as of September 2026. As a result, Gate holds a notable position among the major exchanges in terms of asset variety; however, a large number of cryptocurrencies does not mean that all listed projects have the same liquidity or credibility.

Gate exchange costs: deposits, withdrawals and fees

According to Gate's official documentation, crypto deposits to this exchange carry no fee and are free; however, when withdrawing, the network cost and the fee for each asset are set according to the conditions of that network, and the final amount is shown to the user before the withdrawal is confirmed. For fiat deposits via SWIFT bank transfer, intermediary banks or the receiving bank may also charge a separate fee. Gate may also change the fees for its various services in line with market conditions and platform policies, so checking the rate displayed at the time of the transaction is essential.

Gate Exchange Trading Fees

Trading fees on Gate depend on the market type, the user's role in the trade (Maker or Taker), the VIP level and the fee payment method. The VIP level is determined by factors such as trading volume, asset balance and average holdings of the native GT token, and as the level rises, the trading fee rate decreases.

In the spot market, the base rate at VIP0 is 0.1% for Makers and 0.1% for Takers. Users who enable fee payment with the GT token get a rate of 0.09% for both order types at VIP0. There is also an option to pay with Points, in which the spot fee rate is a flat 0.2% for both Makers and Takers; so this method is not necessarily the cheaper option for every user.

In the futures market, the Maker fee is calculated according to the VIP level table and cannot be paid with Points. The Taker fee is also set by VIP level, but users can pay it through the points mechanism by enabling Points Deduction; in this case the base Taker rate is 0.075%, and taking into account the discount structure and the Maker fee, the effective rate can be lower.

In the Gate Alpha section, which is designed for access to on-chain tokens and emerging projects, the trading fee is currently set at a flat 0.8% and does not depend on the VIP level. As a result, trading costs in Alpha are considerably higher than the usual spot trading fee and should be factored into profit and loss calculations when trading these assets..

Review of the user experience of Gate's dedicated app

A review of user feedback shows that the user experience of the Gate app is positive overall, but not the same for all users. The Android version of the app has over 10 million downloads and around 89 thousand reviews, with a rating of about 4.4 to 4.5 out of 5; the iOS version has also earned a rating of 4.3 out of 5. Users consider the wide range of features, easy access to trading markets and a relatively smooth interface to be the app's strengths. On the other hand, some reports point to problems such as glitches or the app freezing after updates, a complex interface due to the large number of features, and delays in resolving some deposit and withdrawal issues. Overall, the Gate app offers extensive features for active users and traders, but the wide variety of tools and sections may be somewhat complicated for beginners..
