Introducing the Venus Protocol Exchange
Venus Protocol is a decentralized exchange dedicated to lending and borrowing that began operating in 2020. By connecting a wallet, users can deposit supported assets, earn interest, or put them up as collateral to take out loans. XVS staking and Venus Trade leveraged trading are also available. Has the Venus Protocol exchange ever been hacked?
Yes. The Venus exchange has a history of attacks and exploitation of the protocol's mechanisms. According to a report published in the exchange's community, on 15 March 2026 the Thena token market «THE» was targeted in an attack. By exploiting the way deposits were calculated and bypassing the supply cap, the attacker inflated their collateral position and borrowed about $14.9 million in assets; the final outcome of the operation and the liquidation of positions was slightly more than $2 million in bad debt. In a subsequent announcement, Venus stated that the technical cause had been fixed and the resulting debt had been repaid.

Managing Costs on Venus Protocol Exchange
The cost of using Venus should be calculated based on what you do. Depositing, withdrawing, borrowing and repaying are blockchain transactions and may consume gas. Borrowers also pay interest; the interest rate changes with market conditions and liquidity utilization, and there is no fixed rate shared across all assets.
Venus Protocol Exchange Services and Features
Venus's main use is putting crypto assets to work to earn yield or provide liquidity. Another key service it offers is borrowing. The amount you can borrow, the interest rate and the ability to withdraw depend on the conditions of each market. Alongside the core market, tools for staking and position management are also provided. Some of this exchange's services are listed below:
- Depositing and earning yield: Assets enter the lending market and the depositor earns yield in line with the market rate. Returns are neither fixed nor guaranteed.
- Borrowing against crypto collateral: Users can borrow against eligible assets. A drop in collateral value or a rise in debt may push the position to the liquidation threshold.
- XVS staking and governance participation: XVS holders (the Venus exchange token) can deposit the token in the Vault and take part in the decision-making process.
