Review of Funded Trader Prop Firm Challenge Rules

If your goal is to succeed in The Funded Trader (fundedtrader) prop challenges, you first need to get familiar with their rules. Each funding plan comes with a set of requirements and restrictions for traders, and following them matters as much as having a suitable trading strategy. A clear understanding of these rules not only raises your chances of passing the challenge, but also helps you avoid mistakes that can lead to a failed account.

In the rest of this tutorial, we review The Funded Trader challenge rules from different angles and cover the points and differences that many traders overlook when choosing a challenge or managing their account.

Funded Trader Challenge Types and Plan Comparison

Unlike many prop firms, The Funded Trader is not limited to just one or two evaluation models; by offering a variety of plans, it gives traders the option to choose different paths. Each of these challenges differs considerably in the number of phases, profit targets, drawdown limits, risk management rules and registration fee; differences that can directly affect a trader's chances of passing and their experience during the evaluation. For this reason, getting to know the features of each plan and comparing them is the first step toward choosing the challenge that best fits your trading style and risk tolerance.

The Classic Challenge and its rules

The Classic Challenge is the standard evaluation model at the prop firm The Funded Trader , designed to measure traders' ability to earn consistent profits while following risk management principles. This program has a one-step plan and a two-step plan, and thanks to having no time limit, a reasonable registration fee and fairly simple rules, it is considered one of TFT's most popular plans among beginner and semi-professional traders. In this model, the trader can focus solely on executing their trading strategy without worrying about a deadline. In addition, a Scaling program is included in this challenge for gradually increasing capital up to a cap of $1.5 million.

The 1-Step Challenge

Classic 1-Step Challenge is designed for traders who prefer to prove their skills in a single phase, without going through multiple evaluation stages, and gain access to a funded account. In this model, the trader has only one profit target, and by following the risk management rules and reaching it, moves directly to the funded stage. This challenge is offered in four account sizes:

Account size

Registration fee

$25,000

$139

$50,000

$269

$100,000

$499

$200,000

$989

Challenge rules and conditions

To pass the Classic 1-Step Challenge, the trader must meet the following conditions:

  • Profit target: 10%
  • Maximum daily drawdown: 3%
  • Maximum overall drawdown: 6%
  • Minimum trading days: 3 days
  • Time limit: None (Unlimited)
  • Trading during economic news releases: Allowed.

    The 2-Step Challenge

This challenge is designed for traders who prefer to prove their skills in two phases with reasonable profit targets. In this model, after succeeding in the first phase, the trader must also pass the Verification phase while following the risk management rules in order to gain access to a funded account. The Classic 2-Step Challenge is also offered in four account sizes:

    Account size

    Registration fee

    $25,000

    $129

    $50,000

    $249

    $100,000

    $479

    $200,000

    $949

All of these plans have the same trading rules; only the account size and the challenge entry fee differ.

    Challenge rules and conditions

To pass the Classic 2-Step Challenge, the trader must meet the following conditions:

  • Profit target: 8%
  • Maximum daily drawdown: 4%
  • Maximum overall drawdown: 8%
  • Minimum trading days: 3 days
  • Time limit: None (Unlimited)
  • Trading during economic news releases: Allowed.
  • The most important difference between this plan and the one-step version is the increase in the overall drawdown limit from 6% to 8%.

The one-step Knight Challenge and its rules

Knight Challenge It is one of the most popular one-step challenges at the prop firm The Funded Trader (TFT) , and by combining a short evaluation process, no time limit and the ability to withdraw profits within a short period, it is considered a good option for experienced traders. After passing this challenge, the trader can submit their first profit withdrawal request just 7 days after the funded account is activated.

The Knight Challenge is offered in six account sizes:

    Account size

    Registration fee

    $5,000

    $42

    $10,000

    $70

    $25,000

    $50,000

    $179

    $100,000

    $299

    $200,000

    $549

Across all plans, the trading rules are the same; only the account size and the registration fee change.

    Challenge Rules and Conditions

To pass the Knight Challenge, the trader must meet the following conditions:

  • Profit target: 10%
  • Maximum daily drawdown: 3%
  • The ability to submit the first profit withdrawal request just 7 days after receiving the funded account
  • No time limit for completing the challenge
  • Trading allowed during economic news releases
  • A Scaling program for gradually scaling capital up to $2.5 million
  • Support for the Match-Trader and DXtrade

It is worth noting that adhering to the 3% daily drawdown and the 10% profit target requires disciplined money management and precise risk control; therefore, this plan is best suited to traders who can maintain consistent performance alongside profitability.

The One-Step Knight Pro Challenge and Its Rules

Knight Pro is a more professional version of the one-step challenges at the prop firm The Funded Trader (TFT) designed for traders seeking more freedom, a fast evaluation process and more flexible payout terms.

One of the key differences between Knight Pro and many other challenges is its use of the balance-based daily drawdown model (Balance-based Daily Drawdown) . This method lets traders keep tighter control over their risk and account status.

  • Profit target: 8%
  • Maximum daily drawdown: 5%
  • Maximum overall drawdown: 10%

  • Time limit: None (Unlimited)
  • Compared to many TFT challenges, the higher drawdown cap in this model gives more room to handle market volatility and lets traders manage their trades with greater flexibility.

One of the main reasons for Royal Challenge's popularity is the features it offers professional traders:

  • Expert Advisors (EA) allowed: This challenge is one of the few models that allows the use of trading robots.
  • Weekend holding: Traders can keep their positions open while the market is closed.
  • No trade volume restrictions: There is no limit on volume or Lot Size.

Unlike one-step and two-step models, this challenge consists of a three-step process, and the trader must pass all three steps successfully to prove their ability to maintain consistent performance and manage risk. Having an extra evaluation step allows this model to be offered at a lower cost, making it a suitable option for traders who want to enter prop trading at a lower cost.

How Profit Withdrawal and Profit Split Work at Funded Trader

After successfully passing the evaluation stages, the most important part of a trader's experience with The Funded Trader prop firm comes down to how profits are paid out and the trader's share of the trades. By offering different Profit Split models, the firm lets traders receive a significant portion of the profit they generate. The profit share, withdrawal schedule and payout conditions vary depending on the type of challenge and plan chosen, and reviewing them carefully before choosing a plan plays an important role in traders' decisions.

Tiered profit split structure

In The Funded Trader's new profit split model (TFT), there is no fixed percentage for all traders. By designing a tiered (Tiered)system, this prop firm has tied the trader's share of profits to consistent performance and the number of successful withdrawals. As a result, traders who show they can stay consistent and manage the account properly will gradually receive a larger share of their profits.

The structure of this system is as follows:

  • Tier 1 – 30% share: after the first successful, approved withdrawal
  • Tier 2 – 70% share: after three successful withdrawals
  • Tier 3 – 99% share: after six successful withdrawals (the highest profit split level)

The aim of this model is to reward traders who take a sustainable, long-term approach to account management rather than focusing on short-term gains. According to figures provided by TFT, a significant share of payouts relate to traders' first withdrawals, and many funded accounts have received a payout only once. For this reason, the tiered system was created so that consistent, disciplined traders with reliable performance over time receive greater rewards.

Withdrawal cap at each stage

Many traders assume that once they reach a funded account they can immediately receive a set percentage of all the profit generated; in reality, the withdrawal amount at each stage is capped.

For example, if a trader has a $100,000 account, even if they generate more profit, their first withdrawal will be capped and they cannot receive all the generated profit at once. This structure means profits are released in stages, and the trader must first prove their ability to maintain consistent performance.

Profit withdrawal process at TFT

To receive profits at The Funded Trader, you must:

  • First of all, make sure you have followed all the account rules. Staying within the Daily Drawdown and Maximum Drawdown limits, completing the minimum trading days and having no rule violations are among the most important conditions for submitting a withdrawal request.
  • Once you meet the conditions, log in to your account dashboard and submit a withdrawal request. At this stage you need to choose the amount and the payout method.
  • If it is your first withdrawal, TFT will review your identity documents. This step may take a few days, but after the initial verification, subsequent withdrawals are usually processed faster.
  • Once the request is approved, the final amount is calculated based on the withdrawable profit, the account's Tier level and the Profit Split percentage.

Finally, the approved profit is paid to you via the chosen payment method.

Keep in mind that activities such as more than 30 days of account inactivity, Gap Trading around major news, prohibited Hedging or unauthorized Copy Trading can lead to a withdrawal request being rejected. The minimum withdrawal amount is $50 .

The limit reset time Daily Drawdown , according to TFT's rules, is at 5 PM EST .

Does Funded Trader Offer a Demo Account or a Free Challenge?

Many traders prefer to get familiar with a prop firm's rules or test their performance without paying a fee before buying a challenge. Unfortunately, The Funded Trader does not offer its standard challenges for free, but it aims to soon provide a good opportunity for traders to get to know the trading environment through free competitions as well as the use of simulated accounts.
