Introduction to Coinbase exchange

Coinbase exchange was launched in 2012 by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam. This American platform operates under the official name Coinbase Global, Inc. and is currently considered one of the three largest exchanges in the world.

With over 110 million active users, Coinbase supports +300 cryptocurrencies and handles between $4 and $5 billion in daily trading volume. Furthermore, this exchange has successfully achieved a perfect score of 10 out of 10 in the reputable CoinGecko rankings.

In terms of security, Coinbase adheres to high standards, with 98% of user assets held in cold (offline) wallets. Advanced AES-256 encryption and two-factor authentication are also active for all accounts.

This exchange holds prestigious international licenses such as the New York BitLicense, official registration with the US FinCEN and the UK's FCA, and full compliance with the European Union's MiCA regulations. The Coinbase support team is also available 24/7 to provide assistance.

Credibility and security of Coinbase

Coinbase is among the few cryptocurrency exchanges in the world that is listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange and whose shares are publicly traded. This exchange operates with extreme legality and transparency, and is licensed to operate in almost every U.S. state.

  • BitLicense from the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS)

  • Registered with FinCEN (USA)

  • Registered with the FCA (UK)

  • Compliant with EU MiCA regulations (as of 2024)

Coinbase holds Money Transmitter licenses in nearly every U.S. state, with the license issued in all 50 states according to the list. This means that Coinbase is fully approved by the U.S. financial system from a legal standpoint.

Global Ranking and Standing of the Coinbase Exchange

Coinbase is ranked fourth in the CoinGecko rankings and has earned a perfect trust score of 10 out of 10. Interestingly, only the world's three largest exchanges—Binance, Gate, and OKX—rank higher than Coinbase in terms of trading volume.

Furthermore, in the CoinMarketCap rankings, Coinbase holds the third position.
