The complete guide to Tron

Teagle editorial team· updated October 22, 2026 · reading time 5 min

The TRON price (TRX) matters to Iranian users far more than an ordinary cryptocurrency does; the TRON network is the one on which most TRC20 Tether transfers take place, and anyone who has moved Tether has probably dealt with it. On this page you can see the live TRX to Tether price and its candlestick chart, and below you will learn about TRON's history, how the network works, the energy and bandwidth model for fees, supply, the factors that affect the price, and security tips.

What is TRON and who created it?

TRON is a layer-1 blockchain for smart contracts and decentralized applications, and TRX is its native currency. TRON was introduced in 2017 by Justin Sun, a Chinese entrepreneur, and the TRON Foundation, and raised funds through an initial coin offering (ICO) that same year. TRX was first issued as an ERC20 token on the Ethereum network and in 2018, with the launch of the TRON mainnet, migrated to its own dedicated blockchain. That same year TRON acquired BitTorrent, the company behind the well-known file-sharing software.

TRON's originally stated goal was to build decentralized infrastructure for entertainment and digital content, but in practice the network's most important use ended up in a different area: cheap and fast transfers of stablecoins, especially Tether.

How does TRON work?

TRON uses a delegated proof of stake (DPoS) mechanism. TRX holders vote for candidates by staking their holdings, and the 27 candidates with the most votes become Super Representatives, responsible for producing and validating blocks and sharing the rewards with their voters. A block is produced roughly every three seconds. The TRON Virtual Machine is highly compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, and its token standard is called TRC20.

Critics see the limited number of block producers and the founder's prominent role as signs that TRON is more centralized; supporters, on the other hand, point to its speed, low cost and high volume of real network usage.

Energy and bandwidth: how are fees calculated on TRON?

Fees on TRON are measured with two "resources": bandwidth (Bandwidth), which every transaction consumes based on its data size, and energy (Energy), which is needed to execute smart contracts, including transfers of TRC20 tokens such as Tether. Each account gets a small amount of free bandwidth daily, which is enough for a simple TRX transfer, but it gets no free energy.

  • If you don't have enough energy, the wallet burns some TRX from your account to make up for it; so to send TRC20 Tether from a personal wallet you need to have TRX in your account.
  • Staking TRX lets you obtain energy and bandwidth and reduce fees; there are also services for renting energy.
  • Sending Tether to an address that has never held Tether usually consumes more energy than sending to an address that already has.
  • The first deposit to a brand-new address "activates" it and costs a small amount of TRX.

On exchanges these calculations happen behind the scenes and the user only sees the exchange's stated withdrawal fee; compare this fee with other networks before withdrawing.

TRX supply

TRX has no fixed supply cap. New TRX is issued as a reward for block production and voting, while TRX burned for fees is removed from circulation. Because the network's transaction volume, especially Tether transfers, is high, in some periods the amount burned has exceeded the amount issued and total supply has decreased. This balance depends on network activity and is not fixed.

What factors move the TRON price?

1. Stablecoin volume on the network

TRON's position as one of the main networks for Tether transfers is the most important driver of TRX demand. Any change in the Tether issuer's policy toward this network, or users migrating to rival networks, matters for TRON.

2. News about the founder and regulators

TRON's name is closely tied to Justin Sun. Cases and decisions by regulators, including the lawsuit the US Securities and Exchange Commission filed against him and his companies in 2023, affect the market's attention to TRX.

3. Overall market trend

Like XRP and other altcoins, TRX is influenced by the direction of Bitcoin and global macro conditions; check the timing of major events in the economic calendar and central banks' current rates on the interest rates page. That said, since a significant part of TRX demand comes from everyday network use for paying fees, its price behavior has at times differed from altcoins that rely more on market hype.

Security on the TRON network

The popularity of TRC20 Tether has made TRON one of the most frequently used networks in scams. A few common patterns:

  • Address poisoning: sending tiny amounts from addresses whose beginning and end resemble yours so that you mistakenly copy one from your history.
  • Account permission changes: TRON allows control of an account to be assigned to another address; anyone who obtains your recovery phrase can use this feature to take over the account permanently.
  • Pre-made wallets: a wallet handed to you "with a balance" that only asks for a fee to withdraw is almost always a trap.

The Tether issuer can also freeze addresses on TRON. Follow warnings about high-risk platforms in Teagle's risk alerts .

TRON for Iranian users

Many Iranian exchanges handle Tether withdrawals and deposits via the TRC20 network, and TRX is also traded on them against Toman and Tether; its Toman price is roughly the dollar price of TRX multiplied by Tether's Toman rate, so it is also affected by changes in the free-market dollar rate. If you move Tether to a personal wallet, always set aside some TRX for fees so you don't run short of energy on your next withdrawal. Foreign exchanges usually prohibit serving residents of Iran under sanctions rules and may freeze the accounts of users identified as Iranian.
